In the spotlight
Krombacher Brewery
Initial Situation:
At Krombacher, there was no structured patch management in OT. Updates were distributed irregularly using basic tools such as WSUS. As the production landscape grew more complex, with separated IT and OT networks and increasing relevance as critical infrastructure, the team looked for a solution to centrally manage security and stability.
Implementation:
Krombacher started with a three-month proof of concept. The focus was on patch management, software distribution and backup. Various device types and manufacturers were integrated during testing. A key requirement was seamless integration into a fully separated OT environment with dedicated VLANs. Close collaboration with ondeso enabled the development of customised workflows, known as operations, such as automatically disabling write protection during patching.
Result:
After a successful POC, Krombacher rolled out ondeso SR across its production. Today, around 500 industrial PCs are centrally managed. New systems are deployed automatically, patches are applied regularly, and routine tasks such as restarts are executed with a single click instead of on-site work. This saves time, reduces downtime and increases system security – fully on-premise with software “made in Germany”.
TECHNOLOGY
The company inventories its industrial PCs with ondeso ONE and collects central asset information. This creates transparency across thousands of clients and ensures teams always have a clear overview of their OT systems.
COMMERCIAL VEHICLE MANUFACTURING
Since 2014, Daimler Truck, formerly Daimler AG, has been using ondeso in its plants. The global rollout has been successfully completed, enabling all OT clients in production sites worldwide to be managed via ondeso.
MECHANICAL AND PLANT ENGINEERING
The manufacturer of filling and closing machines uses ondeso to automatically install industrial PCs within its machines, manage updates and maintain variants.
AUTOMOTIVE MANUFACTURING
Mercedes-Benz, formerly Daimler AG, has been using ondeso in its plants since 2014. Today, teams manage several thousand OT clients in a standardised way with significantly reduced effort.
ENERGY SUPPLY
Since 2025, NAFTA Speicher has been using ondeso SR and ondeso DC across its three underground storage facilities. From Windows XP to current systems, OT environments are centrally inventoried, patched, backed up and USB interfaces monitored – with 24/7/365 availability.
FURNITURE INDUSTRY
Since 2015, Europe’s largest kitchen manufacturer has been using ondeso to automate OT system management. Updates, patches and routine tasks are executed reliably to ensure smooth operations.
MECHANICAL AND PLANT ENGINEERING
Since 2022, the specialist in balancing and diagnostic technology has been using ondeso to deliver software updates securely and automatically to machines at customer sites – without requiring technicians on-site.
FOOD INDUSTRY
The confectionery manufacturer Storck has been working with ondeso since early 2017. Starting at its Halle (Westphalia) plant, facilities in Berlin and Ohrdruf now also manage IT operations for all production systems reliably with ondeso.
STEEL INDUSTRY
Since 2013, the steel manufacturer has relied on ondeso to inventory and manage all production systems across generations. Patch, backup and security management are implemented centrally, flexibly and automatically.
From automated asset inventory to controlled end-of-life management, our success stories show which projects have been successfully implemented in practice with ondeso.
