The „WE“ is ondeso: Andreas Suttner

Andreas enriches the ondeso team since 2018. During this time, he has built up the Quality Assurance (QA) department and is now responsible for a team of four people. In addition, he has also been working for us as a controller since 2022. Whether on the product owner committee, for controlling topics or as part of the team during trade fair visits – Andreas is an all-rounder who you can always count on.

We are therefore looking forward to an interesting interview with you!

Let’s start with a quick Q&A session:

Tell us your top 3 favorite movies:
I’m actually more of a series junkie. Besides that, I’m a fan of Christopher Nolan, e.g. “Memento” or “The Dark Knight Trilogy”. The “Lord of the Rings” may not be missing, of course. The main thing is that it is not too realistic, otherwise I would rather watch a documentary.

Do you prefer snorkeling in the Caribbean or hiking in Iceland?
Definitely snorkeling in the Caribbean, and maybe a cocktail afterwards 🙂 The important thing is that it is over 30 degrees Celsius, there is a sea nearby and good food is provided.

What is the most exciting thing about your job at ondeso?
What gives it that extra something is the excellent team at ondeso with expertise in a wide variety of areas. I also find the varied activities and my very different working days exciting, depending on the ongoing projects and the current phase in the release cycle. In addition, I have a lot of scope in the respective projects to profitably combine the ideas of my colleagues with my own ideas.

Team book or team podcast?
Definitely team book! I don’t read fiction, but exclusively technical books. At the moment mainly from the fields of business administration and psychology. Currently I am reading “Louder than words” by Joe Navarro. The book is about nonverbal communication and how it influences our daily life. I highly recommend the book!

What was your biggest bad buy?
This was probably a slightly older bike that I bought in 2019 disguised as a bargain from an online platform. The plan was to bring the bike properly up to speed. Since then, I can not motivate me to work on it and it is actually only in the way around.

Now it’s getting serious:

What exactly is your job at ondeso and what does a typical working day look like for you?

Since 2018 I have been Head of Quality Assurance and since 2022 also Controller. As Head of QA, I participate in or lead the technical meetings and am ultimately responsible for the quality of the software in interaction with the product owner committee. As Controller, my current role is to prepare the groundwork for setting up a controlling system. In addition, I revise and optimize selected processes in the company, e.g. in order to be able to work out better forecasts for budget planning and product life cycles with the data that accumulates.

The start of my workday usually runs the same. I get an overview of the tasks in QA and check whether there are any bottlenecks or problems that I can support. If there is no need here, then I briefly update my prioritization of goals and tasks from the previous day for today. According to this order I work on my projects in QA or controlling. The topics are very diverse. In QA, the focus is often on technical issues, while in Controlling, the focus is more on concepts and their implementation, change management and IT-specific issues.

How would your colleagues describe you?

Probably as an idea generator and someone who can provide meaningful suggestions on many subjects. In addition, I am probably perceived as structured with the ambition to improve processes in the company. To this end, I take every opportunity to examine topics from a variety of angles and to question them together with my colleagues. This always results in very interesting and instructive conversations, although I prefer to have them only after my first coffee 🙂

What did you want to become as a child and what brought you to ondeso?

Since high school I wanted there to be a mathematical theorem named after me. This didn’t work out that way, because during my master studies of applied mathematics in the 3rd in-depth lecture on partial differential equations I found out that this is a rather highly specialized scientific discipline 🙂 However, I discovered my interest in financial mathematics and its connections to partial differential equations.

I got to know ondeso through a meeting at the connecta trade fair with the HR manager who worked there at the time. The conversation was so entertaining and interesting that we talked for 1.5 hours at the fair. Since the interview was just as relaxed and pleasant, the decision was very easy! In practice at ondeso, I then noticed that I lacked business expertise in some areas, which I still wanted to acquire. For this reason, I completed a part-time generalist MBA between 2020 and 2022. Now I’m looking forward to being able to apply my broad knowledge on a daily basis.
